SUNDAY SCHOOL : Story Telling

Miriam

Hi all, I am Lydia. I am 7. I am going to tell you a story of a little girl of my age.  I learnt this story in my Sunday class.  This little girl’s was an Israelite.  She was not in her country. She was staying in another country called Egypt.  They worshiped one true God of Israel.  Miriam’s mom and dad were slaves at Egypt.  Things were very difficult at Egypt.  The Egyptian soldiers were treating them very badly.  They beat them up and made them work more. Many times the  Miriam’s dada will come home with wounds because of beatings.  It was difficult for Miriam to see all these.

Miriam had a brother. His name was Aaron.  She loved to play with him.  But mummy would warn them not to go very far as the soldiers are all around.  Now Miriam saw her mummy’s tummy growing bigger every day.  She asked mummy , “what do you have inside mummy?”

Guess what mummy said…. Mummy said, there is a little baby inside to play with.  Miriam was so happy to hear that news.  One more brother to play with!

But the wicked Pharaoh, the king of Egypt gave orders to kill all new born babies of Israel.  Miriam’s family was in trouble.  Now mummy gave birth to a brother.  Miriam was very happy….. oh my look at his legs… his tiny nose…  baby brother slept most of the day.  Soldiers didn’t hear him cry… Miriam was always very close to him to comfort him.  Baby brother grew up very fast. He was 3 months now… He became active and started moving around…  He could cry really loud… my goodness…  Shhhhh….

Mummy thought she cannot keep the baby at home any longer.  She made a large basket and sealed the basket. She took Miriam with her to the river front.  It’s a long River Nile.  She wrapped the little brother with warm clothes and placed him inside the basket and let the basket into the water very gently.

The basket swirled and turned and moved on…. Mummy asked Miriam to look where the basket was going.  Miriam hid behind the bush and was watching… and waiting…  (pause)

The daughter of Pharaoh was coming down the river to bathe… and the basket was going straight there.  Wait… something is happening.  The lady picked up the basket and opened it. She saw a beautiful son.  She immediately knew it was a Hebrew child. Yet she took him out and named him Moses. Miriam’s little brother became  a prince.

Immediately Miriam ran out to meet the princess. She asked if she wanted a mother to feed the baby. The princess said ‘Yes’.  She immediately ran home to bring her own mother.  And took the little brother home to raise him up.  Miriam was so happy to see his brother protected.  She played with him all the time.  Later Moses became big and strong.  He grew up in the palace. And one day he rescued Israelites with God’s help.

I might be really small… but I can be great help to God’s people with God’s help. .

Thank you.
